Fashion Council of New Zealand Supports Local Jewellers in Global Sourcing

The Fashion Council of New Zealand (FCNZ) recently led a delegation of ten esteemed New Zealand jewellery designers to Hong Kong as VIP Buyers, offering them an unparalleled opportunity to connect with international industry leaders and suppliers. This initiative, part of FCNZ’s long-standing partnership with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), aims to foster growth and global expansion for New Zealand jewellery brands.

The designers attended two of the world’s top industry events — the International Jewellery Fair and the Diamond, Gem & Pearl Expo. These exhibitions by HKTDC provided exclusive access to thousands of buyers, suppliers, and manufacturers, allowing the designers to explore new market opportunities, secure supplier relationships, and gain insight into international jewellery trends. Many of the participating jewellers also took this opportunity to source high-quality materials and establish new supplier partnerships, further strengthening their brand with high-quality materials.

"This partnership with HKTDC is a crucial step in helping New Zealand brands explore new suppliers," said Caitlan Mitchell, Co-Founder of FCNZ. "By facilitating these connections, we are equipping our designers with the tools they need to compete on an international level. New Zealand designers, both in apparel and jewellery, are known for their high-quality craftsmanship and fashion-forward designs."

The delegation also served as a platform for knowledge sharing. "It was fantastic to see all the designers come together, meet and exchange issues and come up with solutions," Mitchell said. "It is unusual to have so many brands in the same place, let alone travelling together. It was a fantastic trip, and everyone took away a lot of value from it."

For the New Zealand designers, the trip was a pivotal experience in broadening their horizons and gaining valuable new contacts.

FCNZ remains committed to supporting local brands through strategic partnerships, ensuring that New Zealand’s creative talent is recognised and celebrated on the world stage. With continued collaboration with organisations like HKTDC, the Fashion Council of New Zealand looks forward to creating more opportunities for Kiwi designers to thrive in global markets.
